A complete catalogue does more than fill mandatory fields. It helps marketplaces understand your product and helps customers make a confident choice. For Flipkart and Meesho sellers, catalogue quality should be treated as an ongoing operational process, not a one-time upload.
Start with a catalogue master sheet
Before creating or editing listings, put the complete product information in one working sheet. Add your internal SKU, brand, product type, category, colour, size, material, dimensions, weight, package contents, price, MRP, inventory and image links. This makes it easier to catch differences between variants and prevents repeated data-entry mistakes.
Use a separate row for each sellable variant. A navy-blue medium shirt and a black large shirt are not just different images; they can have different stock, dimensions and customer expectations. Clean data at this stage prevents confusion once customers begin ordering.
Write titles for clarity before keywords
A good title helps a buyer recognise the product immediately. Start with the brand where relevant, then the product type and the attributes that materially change the choice—such as material, size, pack count, colour or use case. Keep it readable. Adding unrelated search phrases can make the page feel unclear and does not improve the customer experience.
For example, instead of a vague title like “Premium Stylish Best Quality Combo”, say what the customer is buying: “Cotton Kitchen Towel Set, Pack of 3, Blue”. The exact title format should follow the category template currently shown in the seller portal.
Complete the attributes that affect the purchase
Accurate specifications, variants, dimensions and category details reduce returns and customer questions. Think beyond mandatory fields: if a shopper needs to know fit, fabric, compatibility, capacity, care instructions or package contents, include it clearly. Check the current category-specific attribute requirements on each marketplace before publishing.
- Match size charts and dimensions to the actual product.
- Use the same colour and material wording across title, attributes and images.
- Keep pack quantity and included items completely clear.
- Do not combine unrelated products into a variation family.
- Update stock and price whenever the actual offer changes.
Use images that answer buyer questions
Images should show the product accurately and at a useful scale. Begin with a clean main image, then add supporting views that demonstrate material, size, texture, key features or how the product is used. If an accessory is not included, do not make it appear to be part of the offer. A customer should understand what will arrive before they read every detail.
For apparel and lifestyle products, show fit, close-up fabric or material and colour. For home, beauty and electronics products, show dimensions, compatibility, use cases and package contents. Avoid heavy text overlays that hide the product or make the images difficult to read on mobile.
Keep the entire product page consistent
Price, variants, descriptions, images and inventory must describe the same offer. A “Pack of 2” title paired with a single-unit image, or a blue variation showing a black product photo, can lead to poor customer experience and avoidable returns. Every time you update a range, inspect the live page—not only the uploaded file.
A practical catalogue quality check
Review your priority listings each month and whenever you change a product range. Open them on mobile, choose each variation, compare images with the selected option and check price, delivery information and stock. Note recurring customer questions or return reasons; they often reveal the next attribute, image or description improvement you need to make.
Common listing mistakes to avoid
Do not reuse one generic description for every SKU, guess at dimensions, upload low-resolution images or leave variation data incomplete. It is also risky to copy a competitor’s wording without checking whether it describes your specific product. Build catalogue information from your actual product and packaging data.
